Every student has different goals, so I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Before we begin we talk about your current level, what you want to accomplish, and the areas you would most like to improve. The lessons get built from there.

Knowing the shape of it in advance takes most of the nerves away.

We just talk first
No test and no level check. A few minutes of ordinary conversation so I can hear where you are.

Then you do the talking
I give you something to react to and get out of the way. The aim is for you to be speaking far more than I am.

Corrections stay light
I don’t stop you mid-sentence. I note what tripped you up and we come back to it once you’ve finished the thought.

You keep the words
The phrases you reached for and could not find get written down as we go. You leave with them.

Hi, I’m Eric!
I’m an American English teacher based in Japan, and I enjoy helping students become more confident and comfortable using English in real-life situations.
Whether you want to improve your conversation skills, prepare for an English exam, become a better writer, or simply feel more comfortable communicating with native English speakers, I can create lessons around your goals and current level.
My approach is relaxed, practical, and student-focused. Rather than relying entirely on textbooks, I want my students to actually use English. We’ll work on the areas you need most while building the confidence to speak, read, and write naturally.
I believe learning English shouldn’t feel intimidating. My goal is to create a comfortable environment where you can make mistakes, ask questions, and improve at your own pace.

FAQ
Questions people ask
Do you take complete beginners?
Yes. We start with greetings and introductions, slowly. If you feel you “can’t speak at all”, practicing speaking is exactly the shortcut.
What if I don’t know what to talk about?
I bring the topics. You will never be sitting there while someone waits for you to think of something to say.
What if I go quiet halfway through a sentence?
That happens to everyone, including people who have studied for years. I give you the words and we keep going. Going quiet is not a failure, it is the moment the lesson becomes useful.
Do you speak Japanese?
Lessons run in English. I follow everyday Japanese, so if you are really stuck we can get past it, then go right back to English. That is the part you came for.
What do I need?
A computer or phone and an internet connection. Google Meet runs in the browser, so there’s nothing to install. Earphones help you hear clearly.
How long is a lesson?
Speaking lessons are 30 or 60 minutes, whichever you pick when booking. The grammar session is 45.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Free up to 24 hours before the lesson — reschedule or cancel yourself from the link in your confirmation email. Inside 24 hours the lesson is charged, because the slot can no longer go to anyone else.
From what age can children join?
From age 6. Parents are welcome to sit in.
How do I pay?
By card, in the last step of booking. Stripe handles it inside the calendar, so your card details never reach this site.
